MANIFESTO

Ecology, oikos (Greek), home, dwelling, habitat, household, and logos, knowledge, speech, meaning. A science on the household of nature, on relations and influences of animate and inanimate nature, on interdependence between living creatures and their natural environment. From this perspective, ecology is a synoptic, multidisciplinary science, an always anew composed synthesis of manifold other scientific and non-scientific disciplines and methods.
A cause of renewed revival and popularization of ecology is a more or less obvious deterioration of natural living conditions as well as increasingly developed awareness of dangers evolving from further uncontrolled development of industrial society.
Let's return to this event's concept by considering the above mentioned word's definition:

OIKOS + LOGOS

Oikos - island of Susak + Logos - MULTIDISCIPLINARITY - art, architecture, science
i.e. where oikos is transformed into logos and vice versa

Oikos - MULTIDISCIPLINARITY + Logos - island of Susak

Susak, a sea island on the west fringe of Kvarner bay, North Adriatic, 44 o 31' N latitude and 14o19' E latitude, area 3,75 km2, width ca. 3 km, highest peak 98 m AMSL, of irregular shape, with week indentation and uneven relief, built of thick sand sediments over a limestone base, which fact renders it extraordinary in the entire Adriatic and Mediterranean.

An ideal milieu for attempting an experiment in lasting sustainable development through a multidisciplinary collaboration of few, at first sight, completely different skills such as art, architecture, science i.e. ecology. Island of Susak, the starting point of observation, defining, establishing and creating various new and old values. The location offering an unlimited number of proofs on conflict between mechanistic and holistic perspective. The locus of invisible and visible interweaving of anthropocentrism and ecocentrism.

Two questions arise: one is of philosophical nature and refers to the type of values inherent in nature, while the other is of a rather sociological character and is about motivating the people for action towards acknowledging these values.
